Why study History Education
History is often called the "Queen of Humanities." The study of history focuses on explaining why or how things have changed over time. It teaches humbleness and understanding by studying people living in the past as it promotes the importance of civil responsibility and moral understanding in the present. It provides students to learn how to research, communicate, and think critically. The study of history prepares you for many careers such a business, law, education, journalism, government, and research. The 365bet has 16 history faculty members, who teach upper-division history courses in US, European, Middle Eastern, Latin American, and Asian history courses. Upper-division courses have low student-to faculty ratio, so students may closely interact with their professors. This allows students to learn how to do historical research that will prepare them for the job market or graduate school. Our history honors society, Phi Alpha Theta, has received the best-chapter award nationally for seven years in a row. It also publishes a student run history journal, The Theta Delta Journal, providing students with the opportunity of getting published or getting editorial experience producing the journal. Many Phi Alpha Theta student attend conferences such as the Ohio Valley Historical Conference where they present their research.
